It projects a drop soon at least to the upper boundary of the channel that silver broke out of in December. Factors making it more likely that the pattern is an H&amp;S top are the way the advance reversed at resistance at the late September highs, with a dramatic high volume reversal candle appearing after a string of bearish looking candlesticks with long upper shadows, and of course the extreme positions evident on the COT and Hedgers charts that we will come to shortly. </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-datestamp field-field-article-published-date"> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <span class="date-display-single">Tuesday, January 21st</span> </div> </div> </div> <p><span style="color: #000000; font-family: Verdana; font-size: small; font-style: normal; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; font-weight: 400; letter-spacing: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-transform: none; white-space: normal; word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; background-color: #ffffff; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; display: inline !important; float: none;">If gold is looking set to react back over the short to medium-term, which it does, then it implies that silver, which is weaker at this stage i</span></p><p><a href="http://ns1.silverseek.com/commentary/silver-market-update-set-react-back-over-short-medium-term-17825" target="_blank">read more</a></p> Tue, 21 Jan 2020 05:07:49 +0000 Clive Maund 17825 at http://ns1.silverseek.com Silver Market Update: the overall picture for silver is favorable http://ns1.silverseek.com/commentary/silver-market-update-overall-picture-silver-favorable-17820 <div class="field field-type-text field-field-article-snippet"> <div class="field-label">Snippet:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> Although last week’s reversal candle and the current rather extreme COT readings make short-term weakness likely, perhaps to the upper boundary of the Fall downtrend, the overall picture for silver is favorable, with it readying to break out of a giant 5-year plus base pattern to follow gold higher. Nevertheless, as we can see on the latest 10-year chart for silver below, it is starting to look a lot better as it hauls itself up out of the 2nd low of the giant Double Bottom pattern shown. Gold’s advance and Summer breakout triggered a strong impulse wave in silver, which then reacted back to support above its rising 200-day moving average. Last week it turned higher to start its 2nd impulse wave, which, given the increasing risk of the dollar dropping hard, has a good chance of making a run at the resistance level shown. Technically, it is still within the base pattern until it succeeds in breaking above the resistance at and approaching its 2016 highs. This is true – the latest COT does look increasingly bullish as we can see below. In addition they also pointed out that silver is approaching a zone of quite strong support approaching its late 2015 lows, obviously a good point for it to bottom.
